Come join us for a fun evening including a CEU presentation, lighting facility tour, and drinks! We’ll start with an accredited CEU presentation by John Cook, of local firm WakaNINE, on how decorative lighting can contribute to the WELL building standard through acoustics, biophilia, and industrial design. Following the presentation, we will take a brief tour of the WakaNINE facility where we will be able to check out examples of lighting fixtures that exhibit these properties. We’ll wrap it up with a social at the St. Elmo Brewing Company. The presentation, tour, and brewery are all conveniently located in a development called The Yard in South Austin just off highway 71. The event is free and open to all members of the community and there’s plenty of free parking.

CEU Presentation Description

Decorative Lighting and the Well Building Standard – Who Knew?

Careful utilization of decorative lighting can influence the achievement of over 10% of the features comprising the WELL building standard.  The key concepts of the standard are described and the features that are positively impacted by decorative fixtures are examined.  Good acoustics within a space can contribute to the achievement of WELL certification. The history of acoustics along with the key elements of NRC, Sabin and RT60 are explained. Acoustic fixtures currently available are reviewed and specification/selection criteria explained. WELL standards that are accomplished via use of biophilia, beauty and sculpture are reviewed along with the task light WELL feature.
